Yesterdays &  Days Gone By

So I’ve been told; “You would have been about three years old at that time. “  This comes as I recall a quick first memory…

The first memory I have of my life is that of being at the top of a snow-covered hill. Many hills; all covered in whiteness, snow. A good day, blue sky and bright white, sparkling snow. My older three brothers were there as well. We each had a cardboard box, just big enough to crouch down and sit in; and then, slide we would down the hill. Dad, smiling and having a good time with his boys, was at the bottom of the hill to catch us and keep us from getting to far on the slide. Then we would trudge back up  the hill and do it all over again.

“Here I come Dad.! Catch Me.!

This would be just the beginning of many a day in snow, sliding, slipping, and generally enjoying ourselves with whatever we could find for speed and excitement.

I do remember it as an exciting and joyful time with dad. I’m sure mom would have enjoyed the few moments of peace and quiet as a respite from the hubbub and craziness that we boys would have usually created. If I was three years old at that time; Ray & Jay, the twins would have been four; and Hugh, the older, would have been six. A younger brother, Reed; and the sister, Tamra (Tammy) would not come along into the family for a bit more time; and it’s entirely possible that mom would have been pregnant with Reed at this time as well. You can only imagine the crazy times that we boys were.

I have always held this as a precious memory; the visionary remains reasonably clear in my mind and memory.

And so it begins; the history of me, and this is us as family – The Davis Family, A history and legacy. I think I will truly enjoy this chronicle of our group as I can recall. I’m now in my seventy-third year. I’m a father myself, having 5 children, four daughters; and one son – just opposite to the family I grew up with - - five boys and one girl. Ryanne, my Love; has stayed with me through thick and thin, and I find myself to be a better man through her and her love for our little band. My dad and mom are passed to heaven now, as well as two older brothers: Hugh and Jay, leaving Ray, Myself (Rick), Reed and Tammy as siblings to carry on for the Donld C. Davis Clan. We’ve had some discussions about these writings and are committed to chronicling the happenings that have been in our lives as we can recall; for the benefit of our children, grandchildren, and family.
